When should I call the funeral home?
Call as soon as practical after the proper medical or public authority has been notified. Hospital, nursing, and hospice staff can guide the initial notification; for an unexpected death at home, call 911.
Do we need to decide everything immediately?
No. Some timing and authorization decisions are urgent, but many ceremony, merchandise, obituary, and personalization choices can be discussed during the arrangement conference.
Can we have a ceremony with cremation?
Yes. Cremation can be paired with visitation, a funeral, a memorial before or after cremation, a graveside committal, or a celebration of life.
Can different faiths and cultures be accommodated?
Horizon plans with families of varied backgrounds and can coordinate with clergy, celebrants, community leaders, and specialized providers when requested.
How do we understand the price?
Ask for an itemized statement and a clear distinction between funeral-home services, merchandise, cash advances, and cemetery or crematory charges. Review and approve changes in writing.
Can family participate from outside New York?
Many decisions can be discussed remotely, signatures may be coordinated securely when allowed, and livestream or recorded participation can be considered for the service.
