Guidance for the first hours
You do not need to have every answer. Begin with one call, and we will guide you through what comes next.
Step 1
If the death occurred in a hospital, nursing facility, or under hospice care, staff will guide the initial notification. If it occurred unexpectedly at home, call 911. Once the proper authority has been notified, contact the funeral home.
Step 2
We will gather basic information, confirm where your loved one is located, and explain what is needed before the transfer can occur.
Step 3
When available, locate identification, Social Security information, parents' names, veteran discharge papers, cemetery documents, and any existing prearrangement records. Do not delay calling if these are not immediately available.
Step 4
During the arrangement conference, we will discuss burial or cremation, the type of service, scheduling, notices, transportation, merchandise, authorizations, and costs.

A gentle reminder
Grief can make ordinary tasks feel difficult. Bring a trusted family member or friend to the arrangement conference if that would help, and write down questions as they arise.
